SADS UK

Supporting those affected by cardiac arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death

RAISING AWARENESS

The Ashley Jolly SAD Trust, SADS UK is a cardiac charity aiming to prevent Sudden Cardiac Death, including children. The charity held the 1st International SADS Conference in London and holds regular conferences for health professionals and families to educate, update, inform and support.

The charity saves lives by raising awareness with the general public and health professionals of signs and symptoms of heart conditions that can cause a Sudden Arrhythmic Death (SAD) if not detected and treated.

SAFEGUARDS

SADS UK works with Government organisations to obtain safeguards for those who may be at risk from a fatal cardiac arrhythmia.  Further to our involvement in campaigning, in March 2005 a new National Service Framework chapter dedicated to sudden cardiac death and arrhythmias was published.  The charity donates heart monitoring and medical equipment  to doctors and medical establishments and Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s)  in the community.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Anne Jolly set the Trust up after the tragic death of her 16 year old son Ashley and is a person-centred counsellor trained in bereavement counselling.  A network of support contact people has been set up throughout the country and people who had been bereaved through SADS offer support to others who have been bereaved in the same way.

Support contact people living with ICD’s, provide support to others who may be recently diagnosed with a heart condition requiring an ICD or medical device, or who may like to talk about their experience.   Counselling and support are very important aspects of the work of SADS UK.

WORKING IN YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

SADS UK and our members nationwide raise awareness and fundraise to purchase and donate heart monitoring equipment to doctor’s surgeries throughout the country to detect cardiac conditions.   As the doctors surgery is often the first place a person who is experiencing symptoms will approach, it is important that they have adequate information and diagnostic equipment.  SADS UK provides information leaflets to doctors’ surgeries, medical establishments and within the community.

RESEARCH

The Trust supports research into cardiac arrhythmia.  This research is essential in order to improve methods of detection and provide even more effective treatments in the future.
